The Four Steps to Mastering Dewy Skin
Dewy bases are here to stay – with Issey Miyake, Tom Ford, Christopher Kane, Chanel, Christian Dior and Bottega Vennetta being just a few of the designers featuring this so prominent look its no wonder that the perfect, flawless, healthy skin is so in demand.
With the right techniques, and the right products, that radiant, beautiful look is just a few steps away. Whatever the skin type you’re working with, it’s crucial to keep makeup natural, creamy and luminous. The dewy base shouldn’t look too shiny or too matte.
Follow our simple step-by-step guide to dewy perfection:
Prep work is key to mastering a healthy, glowing complexion and ensuring skin is in the best condition possible. Cleanse and exfoliate to get rid of dead, dull skin cells. Then hydrate skin with a good moisturiser. Finally, use a priming product to even out the complexion, minimize pores and give a silky base ensuring makeup lasts longer.
Choosing the right products for the skin type is important. For oily skin, choose an oil control moisturiser and a mattifying primer ensuring you can control which areas you want to glow. For dry skin, choose a nourishing moisturiser and an illuminating primer to enhance that radiant look.
A dewy base needs a sheer but flawless, high quality foundation. A BB cream or a light foundation, such as YSL Touche Éclat Foundation, Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder or Armani Luminous Silk, applied evenly with a good foundation brush is ideal. We recommend The Foundation Brush for a really smooth, professional finish.
It’s important that you don’t set the foundation with powder. Similarly, steer clear of powder-based foundations, as they will give a finish that is too matte for this look.
Highlight In The Right Places
Once you have built up a great all-over coverage, highlight the parts of the face that naturally catch the light. The cheekbones, browbones, the bridge of the nose and the cupid’s bow all need to be highlighted. This enhances bone structure and gives the all-important dewy glow.
We suggest trying Tom Ford Sculpt & Shade, Mac Strobe Cream, or Nars Illuminating Multiple to give that luxurious finish and make sure you to blend blend blend.
Add Pops Of Colour
Finally, complete the look with subtle pops of colour. A cream-based blush gives a rosy flush; a light coat of mascara gives eyes definition; and a slick of tinted lip balm keeps lips soft and pouty. Don’t go overboard – while the dewy base is versatile, a glowing complexion is really the star of this beautiful, natural look.
